Adult Basic Reading Program
The Adult Basic Reading provides one-on-one tutoring in reading, writing, math, job-related, and beginning technology skills. Students meet with tutors once or twice a week for 1-2 hours in public access buildings. Our tutors are trained in the Laubach method of instruction, a system known worldwide for its success with adult learners. These learners include English as a Second Language students (ESL), students who need one-on-one help with GED subjects, and students who want to achieve community living skills, including studying for citizenship or a driver’s license. Additionally, we offer adult basic computer skills courses at various locations. As with all of our programs the services and material are free to both tutor and learner alike. Students are responsible for their own transportation.

We also help clients prepare for taking their GED exam. To learn more about the procedure, click HERE.

To enroll, call the Perry County Literacy Council at 567-7323. Some basic information (name, address, phone number, etc.) will be taken at that time. An appointment will be scheduled as soon as possible. During this appointment prospective students receive information about the Council and its programs. We also take this opportunity to identify the student's reading goals and to determine the student's eligibility by using several assessment tools. Students are matched as soon as a tutor is available with a compatible schedule and location.
