| Race For Reading |
The Perry County Literacy Council (PCLC)
is actively engaged in the 17th Annual “Race for Reading”. The PCLC conducts a multi-faceted
campaign in an effort to maximize community
awareness of the programs offered
and to solicit support from the community at large. The first facet of our 2010 “Race for
Reading” event is being conducted in the elementary schools
across Perry
County in an effort to promote reading and literacy among our youth. This year the race again challenged third and
fourth grade students to read as many books as possible for
two weeks! Local
businesses provided prizes for the children who participated in this program.

The second facet in our annual fundraiser
involves the necessary efforts to obtain financial support from the community
in order to maintain the various programs that have proven so
beneficial in
promoting literacy to the adults and families within our county. As state and
federal funding cuts continue to challenge our ability to meet the needs of our
community, the
demand for literacy services has increased. With unemployment on
the rise and a challenging economy facing our Perry County families, our
mission to seek out financial support has
become even more important. On
